I initially chose the University of London as it is world renowned, thus credible amongst any employer, wherever life may lead. Each course provided knowledge that I could directly and indirectly apply to my work. The course curriculum matched career opportunities available and my office has found this subject matter to be directly relevant to my career.
Both my husband and I work with the United Nations and have postings in various countries. Distance learning provided me with the flexibility to work and study simultaneously, regardless of my duty station. It has also enabled me to study while following my spouse to a new duty station and allowed our family to remain united in one household while each of us achieved our goals.
Doing an MSc by long distance was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. The course material was well developed and the support structure was in place. It was the communication from the SOAS team which brought it all together for me.
Also, I learned how to stretch my capacity on the course, and this has had a positive impact on my work. The dissertation was a true combination of theory and practice, and I would describe it as one of the most valuable pieces of work that I've undertaken.
