English Language

For all of our modules you will require a high level of English language ability in reading, writing and study skills.  This should be at least equivalent to a score of 6.0 in the IELTS test or a score of 580 in the paper based TOEFL test (PBT), 237 in the computer based TOEFL test (CBT) or 90 in the internet based TOEFL test iBT).  You may be asked to provide evidence of language ability as tested by the British Council or another registered body.

Why do you wish to study for this Programme?

Your application must include a detailed statement of about 500 words explaining why you would like to study with CeDEP. This should be a personal statement, which includes a brief account of your academic background and present job or career, and a more extended justification of your reasons for wanting to study with CeDEP at postgraduate level

To complete formalities you will be required to send us the following documentation:

  • Photocopied evidence of your full name and date of birth (eg birth certificate, passport, marriage certificate or statutory declaration)
  • Confirmation of your academic qualifications:
  • UK degrees - a photocopy of your qualifications
  • Overseas degrees – original transcript and certified copy of degree(s)
  • A copy of your curriculum vitae if available
  • Signed declaration (print out from here - PDF / Word Doc)

Please scan and email copies of the above documents to gd8@soas.ac.uk to accompany your application and then send original transcripts and certified copies of your academic qualifications (except UK degrees) by post to: The Administrator, CeDEP/SOAS, University of London, Wye, Ashford, Kent TN25 5AH, UK.

What will happen after you have submitted your application form?

Your application will be considered carefully by the Programme Convenor. If we are able to offer you a place on the programme, we will then email you a formal offer letter and enrolment information. Please allow up to four weeks for consideration of your application. If you have not heard from us within four weeks of the date of submitting your application, please email gd8@soas.ac.uk for further information.
